Project Overview
Eightex Retail POS System (v0.1) is a purpose-engineered hybrid billing and store management platform designed for fast-paced retail and supermarket environments. Built with a decoupled desktop-and-cloud architecture, it pairs an ultra-responsive native Windows cashier application (Java 21 / JavaFX) with an asynchronous local SQLite offline queue and a centralized Python 3.12 FastAPI / MySQL 8.0 cloud backend.
The Business Challenge
Traditional cloud-only POS systems freeze when internet connectivity fails, causing catastrophic cashier bottlenecks, frustrated customers, and lost sales. In addition, store owners face chronic stock shrinkage, unapproved manual discounts, cashier cash float variances, and slow barcode response times during peak shopping hours.
What EIGHTEX MS Built
EIGHTEX MS engineered a resilient offline-first hybrid platform: cashiers scan barcodes and print receipts with sub-50ms latency entirely through a local engine, requiring zero cloud round-trips for continuous billing. In the background, an asynchronous SQLite sync worker spools transactions and submits them to the centralized FastAPI cloud core using client-generated idempotency keys, guaranteeing exactly-once transaction processing, decimal-safe arithmetic (BigDecimal), row-level pessimistic locking (SELECT FOR UPDATE), and real-time inventory deduction.
